About Kendra…
Born and raised in Sanford, Kendra Williams is a champion for small business, a voice for families, and an advocate for public education. She has deep local roots and a robust set of professional skills that uniquely qualify her to represent District 33 in the Maine Senate.
Small businesses play an important role in Maine’s economy. Kendra understands the challenges small business owners face but also the rewards. She and her husband, Paul, launched Williams Foundations in 1974. Their concrete company has been synonymous with quality for 48 years and is now owned by their son. Many local families also remember her popular children’s clothing boutique, Kids Kasuals, which she founded in 1979.
After selling her store, Kendra returned to college and obtained her Bachelor and Master Degrees in Social Work with a focus on child welfare and a strong interest in policy and political science. As a Clinical Social Worker, Kendra earned a reputation as a tireless advocate for children and families in a career that spanned over three decades. She held management roles at several children’s services organizations. She recently retired from a private counseling practice, with a specialty in grief counseling, guiding many individuals and families through challenging times.
Over the years, Kendra has volunteered with many local organizations. She’s currently the president of the Sanford Schools Legacy Foundation, which raises funds to provide extra opportunities for Sanford and Sanford Regional Technical School students. She’s also a board member of Strategies for Stronger Sanford. She’s been elected to multiple terms as a Town Meeting and Warrant Committee Member, and served ten years on the Sanford School Committee, some of them as chair. As co-chair of the Core Building Committee, she was a driving force behind Sanford’s four recent school construction and renovation projects.
Married for over 50 years, Kendra and Paul have three grown children who have all returned to Sanford to live, work, and raise their families. They consider themselves blessed to have all six of their grandchildren nearby!
Why I’m Running…
“I spent my early adult years involved in businesses and raising my family. It wasn’t until my mid-thirties that I enrolled in college with the goal of becoming an accountant. Volunteerism and exposure to the core curriculum led me to change my major to Social Work. It was then that I began to fully realize how our economic and political systems can either create opportunities or barriers for people. I developed a strong interest and started to pay close attention to the ways our political systems operated. I’ve been on the ground in my community fighting for important issues like educating our children. As a member of the Sanford School Committee, I advocated the construction of the new high school complex in Sanford.
I want to bring my talents as a collaborator to Augusta so I can continue to help my community, this is while I’m running to be your Senator in District 33.”
